About Me

Two Rooms Secondary Mark.png

My name is Ruth Edwards. I have a Bachelor of Counselling and a post-graduate qualification in counselling. I am a clinical registrant with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), belong to the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (ARCAP), and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) as a Level 4 registrant, as well as being an accredited clinical supervisor with the ACA. I have spent many years working with clients who present with a wide range of issues and concerns, as well as supervising the clinical practice of emerging and qualified counsellors. Counselling is something that I feel passionate about, and believe that everyone deserves, and should have access to, a professional who can help with life's many challenges.

I have very likely been struggling with concerns and problems similar to you. I've lived life, certainly had my ups and downs, and understand that sometimes it is difficult to move forward without some support. My own life experiences have taught me that there are solutions if we are willing to reach out for help even if that feels difficult to begin with. In my professional practice I work with each client with an empathetic, genuine, and supportive approach; taking time to find out your needs, concerns and hopes. I aim to work with you on whatever it is that you bring to our counselling appointments. I am not here to advise or tell you what to do. I am here to provide you with the tools to make real and lasting changes in your life. I believe that with a strong working relationship, a true connection, and by having someone who genuinely listens, you can make significant changes that will enhance your life.

Empty Nest

I am interested in helping people to work through the many challenges that life throws us. As we mature, we can find ourselves coping with a range of issues and concerns that can be helped by talking to someone who not only understands and cares, but most likely has experienced similar concerns themselves. Although I don't have a magic wand, I can provide you with the knowledge, skills and tools to help you work through issues such as: grief/loss; relationships; life transitions; ageing; parenting teenagers; caring for elderly relatives; career; being an adult adoptee; separation and divorce; and feelings of anxiety, stress, isolation and loneliness, as well as whatever you bring to the counselling session. No problem is ever so big that it can't be worked through in a sensitive, caring and authentic way.
